KOSGEY, EASON NAMED OVC CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS OF THE WEEK

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University junior Amos Kosgey and senior Ann Eason have been named the Ohio Valley Conference Male and Female Cross Country Runners of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Kosgey ran away from the field at the Bluegrass Invitational on Saturday in Lexington, winning the men’s 8K race with a time of 23:49.52 and defeating his nearest competitor by nearly 12 seconds. Kosgey’s performance led the No. 21 EKU men to an upset win over No. 4 Oklahoma State, as well as host Kentucky, Ohio State, Tennessee, Akron and Morehead State. The native of Eldoret, Kenya, who sat out last fall due to injuries, beat a field of 124 competitors in his first cross country race since 2012.

Eason placed fourth out of 96 runners at the Bluegrass Invitational, covering the 5K course in a time of 16:58.30. The All-American from Lexington led the EKU women to a second-place finish at the meet. The Colonels defeated the likes of Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Tennessee and lost only to Ohio State.

The EKU cross country teams will compete again the weekend of October 3-4. The men’s team will run at the Notre Dame Invitational that Friday, while the women’s team will run at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
