AUSTIN, Texas – Eastern Kentucky University junior Ann Eason has been voted a 2013-14 Capital One second team Academic All-American for women's track and field / cross country by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Eason was one of the top distance runners in the country this past year. The native of Lexington, Ky. was ranked No. 13 in the NCAA East Region in the 5,000 meters this spring with a school-record time of 16:03.87. She was also named the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Female Track Athlete of the Year and won both the 5,000 meters and 1,500 meters at this year's conference outdoor championships.
During the cross country season, Eason was named the OVC Female Runner of the Year for the second straight fall and helped lead the EKU women's team to its seventh conference title in the last eight years.
In the classroom, the elementary education teaching major carries a 3.95 GPA and was recently inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national honor society recognizing student-athletes with 60 hours or more, who have a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA, have earned a varsity letter and are of high moral character.
Eason is one of only two OVC student-athletes to be named a women's CoSIDA Academic All-American for track and field / cross country, joining third-team selection Molly Basch of Austin Peay.
To be nominated for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
