What was your most memorable race?
I would have to say cross country regionals my freshman year. We came into the race as the heavy underdog to Edmonson County and I ran a 23-second PR to help us win our first regional title, not to mention we also had Jared Skrabacz and Jacob Tinsley finish 1st and 2nd. It was such a gratifying moment, knowing that I helped South Warren obtain its first ever regional championship.
Out of all your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Definitely qualifying for the state track meet in three events this past May. Racing in one event at the state meet is a major accomplishment, and I was blessed to be able to participate in three events, even though the outcome isn't exactly what I had hoped for.
If you could do it all over again, is there anything you would change?
I would have probably pushed myself to my limit more. There were a few races where I felt like I didn't give 100%, and looking back on those races, I think I could've ran some PRs had I given it my all. But other than that, I wouldn't change a single thing.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Recovering from severe iron deficiency my sophomore cross country season. When I nearly passed out and tossed my breakfast after running a PR at Greater Louisville, I was diagnosed as iron deficient. It was difficult to get back into my normal physical shape after that, but with hard work I was able to set another PR later that season.
What will you miss the most?
All of the friendships and relationships I have made throughout four years of high school running. My teammates, along with a few specific others, are some of my greatest friends, and I thank God for blessing me with a great group of friends who were always so supportive. I can only hope I was the same teammate to them as they were to me.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
There is absolutely nothing you can't accomplish. If you put your mind to it and work your butt off for it, you will obtain it. So set your goals high, trust in God along with yourself, and you can accomplish any goal you set, no matter how lofty or impossible it may seem. Phillipians4:13.
What are your college/career plans?
I plan on attending Campbellsville University this fall, where I plan to major in either business or sport management and also run cross country and track. After college, I plan on either starting my own business or becoming a high school athletic director.
Who would you like to thank?
First of all, I would like to thank God. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be were I am right now. He has blessed me with an amazing talent along with great friends and family, and I am so thankful.
Secondly, I would like to thank Jonah Starling and Jake Edmunds. You guys have been my greatest motivations throughout high school; you pushed me to my limits when I didn't feel like I could do it, you always encouraged me no matter how I performed, and were amazing friends to me, and I can't thank you two enough for all you've done.
Lastly, I would like to thank my parents. You have been my absolute best supporters, not just in athletics, but in everything I've ever done. I can't express how much you mean to me, and I love you guys very much.
