Bryant & Harrison on May Bowerman Watch List

Wildcats continue to rake in honors ahead of postseason next weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The fifth-ranked Kentucky women’s track and field team had two Wildcats, Dezerea Bryant and Kendra Harrison, named to the May edition of The Bowerman Watch List.

The Wildcats tied third-ranked Oregon for the most entries on this month's watch list. Andrew Evans was named to the men's watch list on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s watch list was the final edition released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) before the postseason begins for UK with next week’s Southeastern Conference Championships, which the Wildcats will host.

Bryant made her fifth appearance on The Bowerman Watch List this season while Harrison made her third, having also been listed as “receiving votes” multiple times.

Bryant is coming off an all-conditions world-leading performance in the 100 meters last weekend. She ran a time of 10.96w (+4.0 m/s) to win at the Longhorn Invitational over former collegiate leader and former watch list member Morolake Akinosun of Texas.

Indoors, Bryant won the 200 meters title at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in 22.69. She was the NCAA 60m runner-up by just .01 in 7.12 to Remona Burchell of Alabama, putting her at No. 4 on the all-time collegiate performers list. Bryant and Burchell are among the favorites for the SEC 100m title.

Bryant defeated Burchell for the SEC 60m Championship, and was conference 200m runner-up.

Harrison is the collegiate leader and tied for No. 4 in the World (all conditions) in the 100-meter hurdles this season with her 12.68w (+2.1 m/s) win at the Texas Relays. She is No. 3 among collegians and equal to No. 12 in the world in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.60 with a win at the Florida Relays.

She has competed in the 100m and 400m hurdles just once this season, and ranks at or near the top of each nationally.

The SEC 100m hurdles field will boast three of the top-5 collegiate competitors this season with Harrison, third-ranked Jasmine Stowers (LSU) and fifth-ranked Bridgett Owens (Florida).

Harrison was the SEC 60m Hurdles Champion, and finished fourth in the event in a blanket finish at the NCAA Championships. She ran 7.94 at altitude in New Mexico to move to a tie at the No. 9 position on the all-time collegiate performers list.

The 2014 SEC Championships will be held at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex from May 15-18.
