Two-time defending Class A State Champion Meagan Smith has committed to run at Murray State University next year. The Danville senior ended her cross country career with a perfect 2-0 record at the state XC meet after not running till her junior year.
Last May she earned two additional state titles at the Class A State Track Meet. She won the 1600m and 3200m in PR times of 5:15 and 11:35. Her career best 5K came last March in the KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown with an 18:46.83.
When asked why she chose Murray State, Smith replied
"I really love Murray! I attended the Governor's Scholars Program there this past summer, so I was on the campus for 5 weeks. That's when I first met the coach and I got to see all of the campus's facilities and live in the dorms. I loved Murray then and was considering it, and then I had an overnight, official visit there and their coach informed me that if I ran there, my scholarship would cover all of my costs of attending: room, food, books, etc. So that was also a plus! I loved the school and coach, and got a great deal!"
