KY Parent Blog: Tribute to Retiring Manual Coach Debra Moore

Debra Moore retired as Head XC Coach and Track Distance Coach at duPont Manual this month.  A duPont Manual parent wrote the blog below as a tribute to her work over the years at Manual.

This season will be the end of an era.  Who ever thought Coach Debra Moore would leave coaching here in Kentucky behind.  Well we knew she would retire one day but just figured it would be a ways down the road.  For those that know Coach Moore- you already know what an inspiration to the sport she is.  She is a totally dedicated woman and does everything in her power to make sure the kids were always first.  She is a real stickler about the  "rules" and I know most of you coaches out there know that.  She can talk and talk and talk about running until you can't take anymore--but who of us at one time or another hasn't done the same.  If you are involved in the sport of running you know why she is like she is. Not everyone in Kentucky has always agreed with Coach Moore--and parents of her runners have all at one time questioned her  about a certain decision that she made. However, she was the coach and those decisions don't always please everyone but she did what she thought best as does any other coach in any other sport. That scenario will never change in the sporting world.  Her generosity of her time was inspirational.  Knowing that even when practice or a meet was over she never stopped.  It was always what's next?  who needs to see the trainer?  who may need their iron checked?  is all the paperwork completed for the AD?  What is the deadline for hy-tek entries for next meet?  Her memory of stats (not necessarily just her runners either) are crazy.   She is the meaning of "true dedication".   Thank you to Coach Moore for all you've done for the DuPont Manual Cross Country and Track teams throughout the years.  Enjoy your new adventure in Idaho. I know you will always keep an eye on all your runners no matter where you are or where they are.
