Stacey Eden of Simpsonville , Ryan Gibson, Darius Berry and 800 meter State Middle School Champ Michael Caldwell, all of Shively, took Westside Elite Track Club of Louisville to the 1st place Podium at the 2006 USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in the 4X800m Relay on Thursday, July 27. The boys, running in the Youth Boys Category (age 13-14), ran a time of 8:41 and won the National Event over top teams from Houston, Los Angeles, and other major US cities. Stacey (2:09) , Ryan (2:16) and Darius (2:13) kept Westside Elite in the battle and Michael Caldwell sealed the deal with a fantastic 2:03 in his fourth stick 800 meter run. (Splits are unofficial.)
Chelsea Brown qualified for the finals of the Intermediate Girls 400 Meter Dash with a win in her opening round heat. Earlier this week, she finished 14th overall in the Intermediate Girls 200 Meter Dash. Thomas Canary won his heat of the Intermediate Boys 1500 Meter Run and qualified for the finals. He also finished 20th in the Intermediate Boys 800 Meter Run.
