MACON, Ga. – A pair of Northern Kentucky University track & field athletes have been honored as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference all-academic team, the league office announced today.
On the men's side, Zac Holtkamp coupled an indoor track & field all-academic honor with his similar award from this fall's cross country season. Holtkamp cut 10 seconds off of his personal record in the 3000-meter race at the A-Sun Indoor Championships, posting a time of 8:50.03, and was part of an event-winning distance medley relay team and a second-place 4x400-meter relay team at the Cedarville Collegiate Invitational. In the classroom, Holtkamp maintains a 3.62 grade point average during his studies in biological science.
Kelly Johnson took home all-academic honors for the NKU women. Holding a 3.90 grade point average as an elementary education major, Johnson also held her own on the track, posting a personal record of 11:11.05 in the 3000-meter race, and earning a fourth-place result at the distance at the Cedarville meet. At the A-Sun Championships, Johnson turned in a season-best time in the 5000-meter race, crossing in 19:01.06.
Holtkamp and Johnson will continue their studies, and their running, as the Norse embark on their outdoor track & field season, beginning at the Early Bird Relays, hosted by the University of Cincinnati on March 16.
