NEW ORLEANS – Northern Kentucky University's track & field teams have earned Scholastic All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with the Norse women posting the second-highest grade point average in the nation.

The NKU women posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.61 to finish second in the nation among NCAA Division II squads. A year ago, the Norse women finished No. 1 nationally in that category. Incarnate Word posted a 3.64 team GPA this year for the top honor.

A total of 67 institutions earned the distinction by posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.

On the men's side, NKU runner Drew Harris earned USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades for the second time in his career. A total of 156 student-athletes representing 59 institutions were recognized by the USTFCCCA.

Drew Harris
Harris earned All-America honors last fall in cross country by posting a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Division II nationals at Evansville, Ind. Harris, competing as an individual in the field of 182 runners at the nationals, completed the 10-kilometer course in a time of 31:51.1.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either the NCAA Division II indoor or outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard.

In the spring, Harris was named the co-recipient of NKU's Vincent Schulte Athlete of Distinction Award. That is the highest honor a student-athlete can receive from NKU.

The NKU men's team earned Scholastic All-Academic honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.01. A total of 34 NCAA Division II squads received the recognition from the USTFCCCA.
