50 years ago today, Jim Ryun became the first high school to run a sub 4 minute mile. There's a great article in the Wall Street Journal about it. In the article he talks about bringing back the mile. I would like to see it. The 1600 and 3200 are not recognized distances by Track and Field News

He is the only junior to run under 4 min. Mr Ryan finished 8th in the race as I recall. He still holds the U19 American record in the mile and half-mile in 3:51.1 and 1:44.3.
