Movers and Shaker Week 3
Purple Striders Invitational
-- The boys and girls races were solid even with the loss of some runners for the ACT and some crazy weather.
-- Chase Geary (Muhlenberg County) rolled from the start, split 5:00/10:18 on the way to the win 16:14
-- Nice standout race for Tyler Breeds leading North Hardin to the win
-- I mentioned Jonathan Smith (Berea) as a new runner to watch and it brought it. Second XC race ever finishes 3rd overall with a 17:14.
-- Caroline Haas (South Warren) ran a super smart race and showed great experience for just an 8th grader on the course as she took the lead from Aliah Fueller (Muhlenberg County) after the two mile mark. The hill in the back the third time around is an energy killer. Fueller split 6:10/12:58 leading through two miles.
-- This whole meet was very interesting when you look at it just for Class AA/AAA Region 2. There were a ton of match-ups that will play out in November. South Warren, Edmonson County, and Warren East in Class AA. North Hardin and Grayson County in Class AAA.
Rumble Through the Jungle
-- Connor Sheryak (St. Xavier) treated the race as a workout and still won with a 16:25. He was down over 100 meters with one mile to go and rolled into the lead with 250 meters to go. John Spencer (Lafayette) and Nicholas Waltman (Sayre) battled all race with Sheryak taking it in the end.
-- AAA #1 St. Xavier showed they are as good as advertised, missing #2 Sam Lewis, #3 Nick Reader, and #5 Thomas Cave and they still roll over AA #1 North Oldham. Huge races out of Sam Olshansky, Daniel Santos, and Jeremy Burch as scorers finishing 8th, 9th, and 13th.
-- AA #1 North Oldham rolled out the varsity for the first time this year. Their front trio of Trenton Fryman, David Terkula and Luke Tarvestad came in 5th, 6th, and 7th running 16:56, 17:07, and 17:13. They verified they are #1 in Class AA without last year's #2 Tyler Thompson.
-- A #2 Walton-Verona beat #1 St. Henry, but Daniel Wolfer #1 for St. Henry did not compete which added roughly 50 points to their score. Which puts St. Henry in front of WV still.
-- John Spencer (Lafayette) could easily be considered one of the most improved runners in the state.
-- Gabby Karas (Collins) once again withstands the competition beating A #1 Maddox Patterson (Sayre) and AAA #13 Caroline Grogan (Oldham County.) It was close at two miles with them all gapping the rest of the field.
-- Oldham County rolled as team after I left them out of the preview.... (my bad.) Three in the top seven (Grogan, Kati Heil, and Hannah Mullins)
-- Assumption's "B" team reminded us all how good the "A" team really is as the "B" team puts 5 in the top 23 led by future star, frosh Megan Carrico.
-- Nick Robinson steps up to win the battle of the Class AA Region individuals. That group is real tight with 5 of them within 18 seconds. The team race looks just as tight, with Mason County taking this one by six points over Russll 42-48. Ashland Blazer was close behind at 53.
-- Rheagan Sizemore (Mason County) has to wonder who writes previews around here as she wins without being mentioned in the preview. The 8th grader goes with a 20:31 beating senior Brooklyn Bowen on her home course by 15 seconds.
-- A # 7 Fairview wins with a strong foursome, their #5 runner Morgan McIntyre is starting to vault her way up the place list in Class A.
Grant County Invitational
Full recap by Tyler Karnes
EG Plummer Invitational
-- The sophomore continued to look good with Brian Carlson winning by over 30 seconds. The Lincoln County runner also then stayed around and congratulated the rest of the runners in the chute. That is a class act!
-- Pulaski County wins led by Mason Blevins in 2nd and Morgan Stevens in 4th. They look like the top team in the region clearly.
-- Class AAA Region 7 individual battle royale between Blevins, Stevens, and Scout Bundy/Garrison Burchell of North Laurel. Order was Blevins, Bundy, Stevens, Burchell on Saturday.
-- Danville senior Megan Smith makes her XC debut with the win by nearly 40 seconds with a 20:13. She has been running distance in track the last two years, but this is her first crack at XC.
-- Pulaski County's Alyssa Hyden finished 2nd to beat Nikki Coffey of Boyle County. Coffey was able to beat Hyden at the AJ Special previously this season.
-- Class AA #1 South Oldham looks sharp with the win led by Keightley Dudgeon winning herself. They had 6 of the top 11.
-- Daviess County sits out the front three and still finishes 2nd. Projecting those three into the mix and Daviess County would have beaten South Oldham.
-- Daniel Southard rolls from the start to win with a 16:33. Apollo gets second and third with Tristan Durbin and Alex O'Bryan both at 16:46.
-- Team race was a tie through five runners with Jacob Roberts of Daviess County pushing them over the top as the sixth man finishing 19th over Apollo sixth Mazden Tyler in 27th.
