Wildcat Classic Projected Time Schedule
Wildcat Classic - Check Out Who is Running/Jumping/Throwing HERE!!
Brook Raglin (Bryan Station) is the big name sprinter running at the Wildcat Classic Saturday. She is the top sprinter in the state outside of Kianna Gray of North Hardin, so look for her to throw down a very solid time. Male's Shaelyn Waller and Central's Gretel Caballero are veterans that will hold their own against Raglin. This should be a fast race and a great one to watch.
Jayln Johnson (Central), Ke'Asia Johnson (Eastern), and Kassidy Cook (Harrison County) should duke this one. They are three of the best in the state, so look out for this one.
No Raglin or Caballero in the one but very solid with Waggener's Shannon Martin leading the way. Martin ran a 25.36 last year and has Male's Taliyah Townsend 25.50 PR to roll with her. Both of this athletes have been competing for a long time and have a ton of experience under their belt. They will fight the curve together.
This is the event that could be the best in Kentucky this season on the girls side. This race has Gretel Caballero leading the charge with a huge 55.70 PR. The junior has gotten better every year at the 400m and this race is chance to see her early season conditioning. Alexis Gibbons of Mercy popped on the scene last season and made an immediate impact in the 400. She finished with a best of 57.98 while still figuring the event out.
Sacred Heart senior Maggie Allen won the 2014 Class AAA 800m state title with a huge PR of 2:13.68. She is at full strength coming off a mid-season XC injury and will look to start her senior track season off with a bang. She will have competition from her teammate Kathleen Simms. The Class AAA XC State Champ will trade out the 5K for a 800m to open up her high school track career. Sacred Heart is usually primed and ready to roll at Wildcat so this could be fast. Assumption's Abbie Wright and very legitimate speed to hang right there in the mix along with Bowling Green's Brittney Hansen, both with PRs of 2:20 and 2:21.
One Mile Run
2014 Middle School State Champion Alena Sapienza-Wright looks to be the early favorite in this one. She was sub 5:10 last year for the 1600m in mainly smaller races. She will have the veteran Samantha Simms of Sacred Heart chasing her along with the always agressive Kaitlyn Lacy of Male. Class A 1600m State Champ Karly Gawarecki of Holy Cross should be in the front group the whole way as well.
Two Mile Run
Sierra Poppell of Bullitt East and Sydney Larkin of Assumption come with the top seeds time in this event both right around the 11:30 range. Mercy's Brianna Wolken made a huge jump during XC season going sub 18 for the 5K so look for her to jump out to lead setting the pace.
Nice battle up front between Halee Hudson (Scott County) and Lilli Popovich (Christian Academy) both in their secondary throw event. Both girls were state discus champs last year but still were very close to 38 feet in the shot. The double Mikayla's (Talbott and Reichert) will also be in the mix. Hudson and Reichert have both already competed this year.
Alexis Gibbons (Mercy), Shaelyn Waller (Male), and Kate Henlsey (Rockcastle County) are the big names all with PRs in the 17 foot plus range. 17 plus is probably a stretch for this early in the season, expect more along the lines of 16 foot.
Two of the best in the state Camille Mangold (Lex Cath) and Jaci Bickett (Henderson County) will go head to head. Both have PRs of 10-06.
