The Kentucky XC season started a little early this weekend as several teams competed in out of state practice meets in Ohio and Tennessee.
SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - OH
Up north at the Saturday Night Lights meet in Centerville, Ohio, Bishop Brossart's Michael Caldwell busted off the line finishing with a blazing 16:01.84 for 4th overall in the Race of Champions. This was a huge PR and 60 plus second improvement from his finish in the same meet last year. Conner's Nolan Gerlach was the 2nd KY runner in at 16:53.19, while Brossart's #2 Chris Loos crossed in 35th overall at 17:14.20. The race was won by Matthew Brafford of West Virginia with a 15:23.39. His PR is 15:07 @NBN, before everyone starts to question the course.
In the team scoring, Brossart edged Conner by 27 points, 320-347. They were 12th and 13th overall.
The girls side saw Madison Bertram lead the way for Kentucky. The Brossart junior was 61st overall in 21:32.11. Brossart was 16th overall as a team.
KENWOOD CLASSIC - TN
Christian County's Logan Hurd followed in footsteps of his older brother, Sean by winning the Kenwood Classic. Sean crossed the line first in 2010 with a 16:18, well Logan beat his team to win this year. Logan crossed in 15:49 (roughly 2.8 miles) winning by less than a second over Dominic Voehler of Hume-Fogg. Marshall County was the top boys team in 5th place with 142 points. Their front three of Jacob Carnine, Jackson & Joseph Reed up ran in the 17s to lead the way (17:15, 17:37, 17:48.)
Christian County's Rhyne Howard led the way for the girls with a 9th place finish in 22:35 with Vanessa Smith of Marshall County close behind at 23:09 for 12th place. Fort Campbell was the top girls KY team in 4th with a 117 over Marshall County's 139. Paige Updike was Fort Campbell's #1 in 24th at 24:06.
