NKU's JJ Webber and Tyler Thomas Named ASun Athletes of the Week

MACON, Ga. – The Northern Kentucky University track and field teams took a pair of conference honors for the second time this month as J.J. Webber was named the Atlantic Sun Conference men's track athlete of the week and Tyler Thomas was honored as the women's field athlete of the week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Webber, a freshman from Liberty Township, Ohio, picked up his first event victory this season at the SPIRE Midwest Open, taking the 5000-meter race in his first collegiate attempt at the distance with a time of 14:50.70.  Webber also set an NKU freshman record in the mile, crossing ninth with a time of 4:22.30.

This marks Webber's first track honor and second weekly award overall, as he was named cross country runner of the week this fall following his medal at the Greater Louisville Classic.

Thomas, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, continues to raise the bar in the high jump for NKU, setting a new school record at 1.65m (5-5) to finish third at the SPIRE Midwest Open. The third-place result is the highest for her at a meet this season, and the jump ranks as the No. 3 height among conference competitors this season.

Three weeks ago, Brendan Chwalek and Karena Fulks each earned A-Sun track athlete of the week honors.
