2012 KYtrackXC.com Outdoor Awards

Sprinter of the Year - Alisha Adair (Western Hills)

Adair, a junior has dominated the KYtrackXC.com Indoor Spinter of the Year Award taking it the last three winters, but had yet to hold the domination through outdoor season.  This spring it was a different story as she fought through some mid-season injuries to take the 100m, 200m, and 400m titles at the Class AA Kentucky State Track Meet.  Her winning time of 12.32 in the 100m was a new PR with her most impressive race coming in the 400m where she came in as the underdog.  She ran a new PR of 56. 53 which was 2.1 seconds better than her previous best.  She also anchored home the 4x4 to a new Class AA State Record time of 4:00.62.  All of that hard work paid off as Western Hills won the Class AA State Team Title as well.

Distance Runner of the Year - Katherine Receveur (Assumption)

Receveur, a sophomore was clearly the top distance runner in Kentucky this spring as not a single soul from Kentucky bettered her in a race over 400m.  She won the 1600m Run at Eastern Relays with a 4:56 over top level competition from Ohio.  She won the Kentucky Dream Mile with a 4:59.06.  She won the Class AAA 800m Run at the Kentucky State Track Meet with a crisp 2:15.50.  She led off an Assumption 4x800m Meter Relay that ran an 9:17.45 which set the Kentucky State Record.  Most importantly, she led a distance group that combined together to score 87 %  of Assumption's points on their way to the school's second Class AAA State Team Title.

Field Event Athlete of the Year - Kelsie Courtney (Trimble County)

Courtney, a junior leapt to all new heights this spring in the High Jump.  She was the Class A Runner-Up in the event a year ago and she did not even compete till March.  But she figured it out in that time as she started the season off with a bang hitting 5-06 during her first meet at Carroll County on March 13th.  She left her previous best of 5-04 behind as she matched or beat it seven times this season.  She saved the best for last at the Class A Kentucky State Track Meet as she went over the bar at 5-09.  That mark moved her up to #4 on KYtrackXC.com's All-Time List and a tie for #18 in the United States for 2012.

Sprinter of the Year - James Quick (Trinity)

Quick, a junior is faster than the fastest American in history.  Well, that is true when it comes to when the fastest American ever Tyson Gay was in high school.  James Quick ran the fastest 200m Dash in Kentucky history at the Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet with a 20.94.  His dual with Ronnie Baker of Ballard bettered the dual of Ben Kittleson and Tyson Gay at the 2001 State Track Meet 21.22/21.23.  That times ranks him 14th in the country in an event that Kentucky never touches the top 50 list in.  He also popped off a new best time of 10.70 to finish second in the 100m Dash at the state meet.  Quick was recently ranked as the #60 Football prospect in the nation by ESPN.

Distance Runner of the Year - Jacob Thomson (Holy Cross) & Tretez Kinnaird (Butler)

Doubling up winners is not the preferred thing to do, but Thomson and Kinnaird, both juniors dominated the distance events this spring, just different events.  Thomson is the longer distance guy who established himself as one of the best distance runners in Kentucky history in both the 1600m & 3200m.  Kinnaird is more the 800m/1600m type.  Put that together and you have Kentucky's best distance combo ever.

Thomson, no stranger to running fast times set new best times in every distance from 800m to the 5000m this spring.  He won the KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown with a 14:49 in March, he flew to California and ran 8:58 for the 3200m (2nd KY person ever), he won the 3200m at the Eastern Relays with another 8:58 (fastest ever on KY soil) and came back the next day to run a new personal best in the 1600m with a 4:10.69 (KY #2 All-Time.)   Then he showed up at the Class A Kentucky State Track Meet and tripled to win the 1600m, 800m, and 3200m.  In a non-energy conservation move in the first race of the day for him the 1600m, he broke the Kentucky State Record by 2.36 seconds.

Not to let Thomson out do him, Tretez at the same Eastern Relays as above became the first person in Kentucky history to ever run sub 1:50 in the 800m as he went 1:49.97 winning by six seconds just leaving the field behind.  The next week he opened up a claim for territory for himself as he finished third at the Kentucky Dream Mile with a 4:15.97 which converts to a 4:14.49 which was a six second PR.  At the Class AAA Kentucky State Track Meet he anchored Butler to a new school record of 7:53.45 finishing second overall.  His split was officially timed at 1:50.50.  In the open 800, he thrashed the previous 800 record of 1:52, running a 1:49.96 once again six seconds ahead of the rest of the field.  He went 1:49.31 to win the Music City Distance Carnival which leaves him currently ranked third in the United States.

Field Event Athlete of the Year - Trevor Troutman (Bullitt East)

Troutman, a senior dominated the Discus competition this spring in Kentucky.  He came into the season with a best 165 and went over that mark in 12 of his 13 meets this spring.  He threw his best mark at the Bullitt County Championship with a bomb of 186-02 that places him third in Kentucky history and gives him over a twenty foot improvement from last year.  The University of Louisville signee also set a new best of 52-03.5 which was four feet better than last year. He won his second Class AA Kentucky STate Discus title in a row with a lob of 177-09.
