2006 KYtrackXC.com Indoor Track Awards

KYtrackXC.com would like to announce the following winners of the 2006 KYtrackXC.com Indoor Track Awards. These athletes were nominated and voted on by coaches throughout the state of Kentucky. The winners will receive certificates in the mail to acknowledge this award. Congratulations to all of these athletes for their great performances this indoor season!

The winners are:

Girls Indoor Sprinter of the Year
Lutisha Bowen (Ballard High School)

Bowen, a sophomore, participated in two indoor meets this winter, winning a combined four events. At the Wildcat Invitational she won the 60-meter Dash with a meet record 7.99. She also won and set the meet record in the 200-meter Dash with a 25.99. At the Mason-Dixon Games she won the 55-meter Dash and the Triple Jump.

Girls Indoor Distance Runner of the Year
Kortni Dukes (Scott High School)

Dukes, a senior, won the AAA 1500 & 3000 at the Mason-Dixon Games. She broke the meet record in the 1500 with a 4:49.29. She was the highest Kentucky finisher at the UK High School Invitational in the 2-mile Run with an 11:18.35. She has signed to run next year for the University of Louisville.

Girls Indoor Field Events Athlete of the Year
Morgan Thacker (Rockcastle County High School)

Thacker, a sophomore, won the AA Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Mason-Dixon Games. She jumped 16-10 and 31-09.75, respectively, in those events. At the UK High School Invitational she jumped 17-05 for a 5th place finish in the highly competitive UK Meet. That jump was the best of the indoor season.

Boys Indoor Sprinter of the Year
Ken Vereen (Tates Creek High School)

Vereen, a senior, won the 400-meter Dash at the Wildcat Invitational with a time of 51.02. This was the fastest 400-meter time during the indoor track season. He was also a member of the winning 1600-meter Relay Team at the Mason-Dixon Games.

Boys Indoor Distance Runner of the Year
Michael Eaton (Greenwood High School)

Eaton, a senior, won the AAA 1500 and 3000 at the Mason-Dixon Games, breaking both meet records in the process. He ran a 4:00.37 and 8:37.87, respectively. He also won the 3200 at the Wildcat Invitational running a 9:11.10, which was the best in the season in the event for the majority of the winter. He has signed to run next season for the University of Louisville.

Boys Indoor Field Events Athlete of the Year
Steven Jenkins (Trinity High School)

Jenkins, a senior, won the AAA High Jump at the Mason-Dixon Games with a jump of 6-08, tying the AAA record. This was a four-inch improvement from the outdoor state meet last June. He also jumped 6-04 at the UK High School Invitational.
