The St. Catharine Patriots are proud to welcome Austin Spees to the 2012-13 cross country roster.  With his parents, Danny and Brenda Spees, grandmother Sue Spees, and sister Sara Warriner by his side, Austin signed an NAIA scholarship contract to officially join the St. Catharine Cross Country and Track Program.  Austin ran at St. Mary High School and Middle School under Coach Chuck Gullo and Patrick Hatton.

Spees was a member of the St. Mary Vikings Class A Region 1 Championship cross country team in 2009, 2010, and 2011.  The team also placed third in the Kentucky State Cross Country meet in 2011, as well as several other top state finishes over the years.  Spees ran track for St. Mary in several positions making it to the state track meet the past few years.

Asked why he chose St. Catharine, Spees said, “I visited St. Catharine and knew it was the right place for me, they have what I’m looking for in a college. They offer the sports degree that I am interested in and I will have an opportunity to get in on the growing cross country program at St. Catharine over the next four years.”

"We are very excited to add Austin to our 2012-13 roster.  He has proven to be a successful runner with great knowledge for both sports. He is a very hard worker who we are expecting good things from " says St. Catharine Head Coach, Blake Jones.

St. Mary coach, commented on Spees, "Austin is an outstanding runner.  He understands running, he’s a leader and he’s dedicated.  I am positive that he will make an impact on St. Catharines cross country team, we will be keeping an eye on him."
