BIG RAPIDS, Mich.--The Bellarmine men's and women's cross country teams had disappointing ends to their seasons today at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Ferris State University at the Katke Golf Course, finishing seventh and eighth respectively to miss advancing to the national finals.

One Knight will go on to the national championship as men's runner Jordan Parayil finished 10th overall to qualify as an individual. Parayil also earned a spot on the All-Midwest Region team as did women's runners Angela Musk and Emily Frith.

To advance as the team Bellarmine's men needed a top three finish, but the 17th-ranked Knights had to settle for a seventh place finish in the field of 23 teams. Grand Valley State won the regional and will be joined at the national finals by Southern Indiana and Ashland, who finished second and third respectively.

The 20th-ranked Bellarmine women needed a top four finish, but placed eighth overall in the 22-team field that saw just 23 points separating fourth from eighth. The Grand Valley squad also won the women's race with host school Ferris State coming in second, followed by Saginaw Valley and Ashland.

The races were delayed for frost, but when they did get started, Parayil covered the 10 kilometers in 32:38.9 to lead all Bellarmine runners.  Other top 40 finishers for the Knights included Robert Sandlin, Jr., and Nate Dotterweich who finished 38th and 39th.

The Bellarmine women were led once again by Musk and Frith.  Musk, who covered the six kilometers in 22:17.3, finished ninth overall and missed qualifying for nationals by just one spot.  Frith, the freshman of the year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, clocked a 22:36.7 to finish 15th.
