LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- After running against many of the top teams in all three levels of the NCAA in last week's Greater Louisville Classic, the Bellarmine University men's and women's cross country teams checked in at No. 17 in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll.
Led by junior
Angela Musk, the women had a strong showing last week, finishing in 25th place in the “Gold race,” which featured mostly Division-I teams. They also finished ahead of Division-II programs Southern Indiana and Queens(NC) University, who were ranked No. 9 in last week's poll.
Jumping up from No. 22 in last week's national poll, the women's team also moved past USI into No. 3 in the Midwest Region rankings.
With an impressive performance of their own, the men also ran step for step with some of the top Division-I teams in the area, finishing in 15th place in the “Gold race.” Bellarmine's top finishers included
Jordan Parayil,
Dominic Perronie,
Neal Masterson, and
Nate Dotterweich.
In the regional rankings, the men's squad did slipp one spot into No. 4 behind Ashland University. The top three finishers in the Midwest Region will earn spots to the NCAA Championship.
Bellarmine will spend this weekend in Terre Haute, Ind., competing in the Gibson Family Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
