SOUTH BEND, Ind.--The Bellarmine University women's cross country team, which was ranked No. 21 in the Division II preseason poll, made a strong showing against a national field in today's National Catholic Cross Country Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. The Knights finished second among non Division I competition and placed eighth out of 33 teams overall.
Bellarmine was led by
Angela Musk, who was the top Non Division I finisher with a five kilometer time of 18:05. Freshman
Emily Frith also notched a top 10 finish with her time of 18:46.
"We ran much better as team today," said Bellarmine Women's Cross Country Coach
Kris Horton. "We raced well across the board and had a couple of people really step up, imporoving by over a minute."
The only non Div. I team to finish higher than Bellarmine was Stonehill College, which earned a national ranking of 14th in the preseason poll.
"We have some improvements to make," Horton said, "but it's early in the season and I feel we are where we need to be at this point."
