Cross country looks to defend titles at National Catholic Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Bellarmine men's and women's cross country team will travel to South Bend, Ind. this weekend to compete in the prestigious National Catholic Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

The meet will feature several of the biggest Catholic schools in both Div. I and Div. II as teams such as Notre Dame, Marquette, DePaul, St. Louis, Xavier competed last season. Familiar Div. II schools that attended last year were GLVC foe Lewis University as well as Spalding, Wheeling Jesuit, and Gannon. A total of 823 runners are scheduled for this year's event.

Both the men's and women's team took home top honors a year ago in the Div. II field, with the men taking fifth overall, ahead of Div. I schools DePaul and St. Louis.

The Knights started out the season by splitting the squad and going to both the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Ferris State and the Queen City Invitational in Alexandria, Ky. Top performers on each side include junior Angela Musk and senior Alex Jones.

The combined JV race will begin at 3:30 PM on Friday, followed by the women's 5K race at 4:15 PM, then finally the men will run at 5:00 PM. All three races will be run at University of Notre Dame's Golf Course.
