KWC car/truck show to benefit athletic programs

A car and truck show will help raise money for Kentucky Wesleyan College's athletic programs this weekend.

The KWC All American-All Sports Club is hosting its first vehicle show on KWC's campus on Saturday. It costs $15 to enter a car or truck in the show, but there is no admission charge for the public to attend the event.

“We're looking ... to generate some interest in the school and get people involved,” said Bill Lynch, who is on the club's executive committee. “We're looking for others to join the All American-All Sports Club. Anybody that would like to help, we're glad to have them.”

Residents don't have to be KWC alumni to join the club.

Vehicle registration begins at 8 a.m., and an awards presentation is at 3:30 p.m. Awards include Best Chevy, Best Ford, Best Mopar, Best Truck, Best Street Rod, Student's Choice, Clown's Choice and Club Choice, according to a club press release. There will be a best of show and desk plaques for all entries.

Several vehicles are already pre-registered, Lynch said.

The Shriner Clowns are attending the car and truck show. Other activities include games and music. There will be vendor booths, concessions and a silent auction, as well. Some of KWC's student athletes will assist with the activities, Lynch said.

Most of the activities will be set up in front of the Yu Hak Hahn Center for the Sciences, which faces Frederica Street.

The All American-All Sports Club raises money for all of KWC's athletic teams. Some of the teams use club-generated money to help purchase uniforms while others use it to supplement travel expenses, Lynch said.

“We use the funds to try to supplement the expense of an athletic program,” he said. “Under the requirements of the NCAA, there's so many things that you have to do, and it is awfully expensive. We try to supplement some of those expenses.”
