TURLOCK, Calif.--Bellarmine University sophomore Angela Musk competed tonight in the NCAA DIvision II Outdoor Track and Field National Championship hosted by California State University-Stanislaus.  Running in the first heat of the 1500 meters preliminaries, Musk clocked a solid time of 4:33.77, which fell just short of qualifying for Saturday's final.

In the 1500 meters, a total of 12 runners advance to the finals.  The event was run in two heats with the top four from each heat and the next top four times advancing.  Musk may have been a victim of running in the slower of the two heats, as the top four runners all came from heat two.

"Angela ran a solid race," said Jim Vargo, Bellarmine's head track and field coach. "She was within a tenth of a second to qualifying for the finals," he added.

Musk finished in 14th place overall, and her time was just .09 seconds from making the top 12. She  entered the championship with the 17th best qualifying time--a 4:33.20 run at the University of Louisville's "Twilight Meet" earlier this month, and she was the only Bellarmine athlete to qualify for the track and field national championship.
