Kris Horton have been named finalists for NCAA Region honors.
Mattingly, the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Year, has been named a finalist for the NCAA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year. Mattingly scored 29 points at the GLVC Championship meet last weekend, winning both the discus and javelin while placing second in the hammer and eighth in the shot put. Mattingly has earned NCAA Provisional status in the hammer and holds the Bellarmine school record in both the hammer and discus.
Coach Horton, who completed his tenth season as the women's cross country and distance coach, is a finalist for Assistant Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Region. Horton's charges scored 46 points at the GLVC Championships, helping the Knights to a second place finish, the best in school history. Three of Horton's athletes have earned NCAA Provisional status -
Carissa Martin in the 800m,
Angela Musk in the 1500m, and
Meghan Shagena in the 5000m.
Final voting will be held Friday, May 20 with the winners announced prior to the NCAA D-II Championships on May 26 – 28.
