ROLLA, Mo. --- With most of the state's eyes on the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, the Bellarmine University men's and women's track and field teams will look win a few races of their own as they compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.

On the men's side, Bellarmine will look to make a push in the sprints as Damar Williams and William Saucer have recorded the top two times in the 100 meter dash this season. Williams is also ranked second in the 200 meter dash.

Other Knights that look to make some noise on the men's side are Frank Wathen (high jump), Bryan Gennett (pole vault), Elliot Mattingly (hammer throw), Zach Pittman (800m), Robert Sandlin Jr (1500m), Seth Siglar (110m hurdles), and Jared Findlater (400m hurdles).

The women look to use their depth to improve upon their third place finish in the GLVC Indoor Championships. Madison Roark leads the team as she sits atop the 400 meter hurdle entries. Bellarmine also will factor into the relays as both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays are ranked in the top three.

Meghan Jones (high jump and 400m), Julia Zalewski (hammer throw), Carissa Martin (800m), Angela Musk (1500m), Megan Kiser (3000m), Virginia Steilberg (3000m), and Megan Shagena (5000m) are also ranked in the top three in their respective events.

Several Knights have already met NCAA provisional times as Jones, Gennett, Mattingly, Martin, Musk, and Shagena will all look to qualify automatically for the NCAA Championships as coach Jim Vargo hopes to add a few more names to the list.

The GLVC Championship get underway on Saturday with the first event schedule for a 9:00 a.m. start.
