INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior Meghan Shagena and Lewis University senior Samantha Linck (Kohler, Wis./Kohler) are the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Shagena was tabbed Track Athlete of the Week after recording a 15th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays over the weekend. She posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 17:18.32.

The time was a personal best for Shagena and also set a new school record. Her effort was 13 seconds better than the record previously set by Meghan Crowe.

Linck was named the Field Athlete of the Week after winning the high jump at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays on Friday night. She netted a NCAA Division provisional qualifying mark in the event by clearing 1.72 meters.

Linck is currently leading the GLVC in the event and ranked 11th nationally.

Bellarmine and Lewis will next compete this weekend at the GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo. on May 7-8.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury's Brenda Varela and Saint Joseph's College's Melissa Buche.
