DANVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s track and field team finished first and the EKU men’s team finished second at the Centre Invitational on Saturday, as the Colonels won 15 events and recorded three Ohio Valley Conference-best times.
Junior
Lydia Kosgei won the women’s 5,000 meters by more than a minute with an OVC-best time of 16:52.73, eclipsing teammate
Kat Pagano’s previous OVC-best mark of 16:56.25, set last weekend at the Stanford Invitational. Kosgei’s time is the third-fastest in EKU history. Sophomore
Picoty Leitich, meanwhile, won the women’s 800 meters by more than eight seconds with an OVC-best time of 2:13.25, and junior
Lutisha Bowen won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with an OVC-best time of 14.34.
Other winners on the women’s team included Pagano, who won the women’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:50.25, sophomore
Bianca Forbes, who won the womens’ 400 meters with a time of 57.05, junior
Diamond Benjamin, who won the women’s 100 meters with a time of 12.26 and the women’s 200 meters with a time of 25.36, sophomore
Shannon Hooper, who won the women’s discus with a personal-best throw of 131-10, sophomore
Jazzmin Jeter, who won the women’s long jump with a leap of 18-08.5, junior
Morgan Thacker, who won the women’s triple jump with a leap of 36-05.00, the women’s 4x100 meter relay team, which won with a time of 48.37 and the women’s 4x400 meter relay team, which won with a time of 3:55.15.
Winners on the men’s team included junior
David Mutuse, who won the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.40, senior
Kristopher Hawkins, who won the men’s 400 meters with a time of 49.02 and sophomore
Victor Kemboi, who won the men’s 400 meters with a time of 1:55.58.
The EKU track and field team returns to action two weekends from now at the Tennessee Sea-Ray Relays and the Mt. SAC Relays.
