Austin Carter, senior at St. Xavier High School in Louisville has signed to run at the University of Memphis next year. Carter was a member of St. X’s 2009 Class AAA Kentucky State Champion Cross Country team, as well as runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2010. On the track, he was a member of St. X’s 2009 Class AAA Kentucky State Champion 4 x 800 meter relay team, as well as a member of their 2009 and 2010 Class AAA Kentucky State Runner-up teams.
Asked why he chose Memphis, Carter said, “Memphis is just an overall good fit for me. I will have an opportunity to contribute early and look forward to playing a role in helping grow the distance program at Memphis the next four years.” Carter also looks forward to teaming with former Paducah St. Mary standout and Class A Champion, James Maglasang, who joined the Tigers last fall.
Carter’s accomplishments also include the 2009 Class AAA, Region 3 individual XC title and 3rd place finishes last spring in the 1600 meter run and 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2010 Class AAA Kentucky State Meet. He chose Memphis over Tennessee, Air Force, Navy, Pepperdine and Colorado School of Mines.
