INDIANAPOLIS—The Great Lakes Valley Conference has announced the recipients of the fall Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Sportsmanship Award and among the winners are Bellarmine University's men's and women's cross country team.

The SAAC Sportsmanship Award is determined by votes of the 15 GLVC member institutions' campus SAACs. The committees select their top three choices in each sport and base their decision on their view of sportsmanship. Each team that received a first-place vote received three points, second-place received two points and the third-place received one point. The GLVC sponsors the award in each of the league's 17 championship sports.

This is the second year in a row that both of Bellarmine's cross country teams have earned the award. It also marks the second time in the history of the award that a school has won both men's and women's cross country in the same year.

The women's team won the 2010 GLVC Championship for the first time in school history while the men, who finished in third place in the GLVC, went on to finish in 22nd place in the NCAA Championship. Both teams are coached by Jim Vargo.

Other winners were Missouri-St. Louis in women's soccer, Southern Indiana in volleyball, and Missouri S&T and Quincy were co-winners in men's soccer.

A team award will be presented to each of the five squads claiming the team sportsmanship awards. An overall 'Good Sportsmanship' award will be presented to the institution with the most points during 2010-11 academic year. Northern Kentucky claimed the inaugural award in 2007-08, Wisconsin-Parkside earned the overall award in 2008-09, and Bellarmine earned the overall award in 2009-10.
