RICHMOND, Ky.
– Eastern Kentucky University freshman Soufiane Bouchikhi will run at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships today, Nov. 22, at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The men’s race is set to begin at 12:48 p.m. ET.

Bouchikhi earned an at-large bid to the championships after placing third at the Southeast Regionals two weeks ago, covering the 10K course at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park in a time of 30:18.8.

The Antwerp, Belgium native is the fourth Colonel to run at the national championships in the last four years, joining Jacob Korir and Joseph Maina (2007) and Wesley Ruttoh (2009).

Bouchikhi was named the 2010 OVC Male Cross Country Runner of the Year after winning the OVC Championships with an 8K time of 24:56.73 and leading the men’s team to its fifth consecutive conference title.

He is the OVC’s lone representative at the championships.

Stanford comes into the 2010 championships ranked first in the nation, but just by a point over defending champion Oklahoma State. Liberty’s Sam Chelanga, who defeated Bouchikhi at the Southeast Regionals, ran away from the field at last year's national championships and will enter Monday’s race as the favorite to win it all.
