NKU cross country teams have solid showings at meet in North Carolina on Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Northern Kentucky University competed in the Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday afternoon. The Norse men finished eighth out of 23 teams in their eight-kilometer run, while the NKU women were ninth out of 20 teams in their five-kilometer event.

Joey Mueller led the NKU men by finishing 28th in a time of 25:25. NKU's Ryne Smith posted a 43rd-place finish in 25:50, while Ricky Harm was 52nd with a time of 26:13. Justin McIntyre (58th, 26:18) and Brendan Chwalek (64th, 26:26) also enjoyed solid performances.

Queens (N.C.) won the men's team title with a score of 66.

In the women's race, Jerrica Maddox posted a 25th-place finish with a time of 18:38. NKU's Kayla Justice was 32nd in 18:43, while Danielle Mercer finished 47th in 19:00. Alisha Hansman (54th,19:13) and Kelsey Gaffney (94th, 20:40) rounded out the top five for NKU.

Florida State captured the women's team title with a score of 76.
