LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bellarmine University Men's Cross Country team, ranked No. 25 in the nation, took 28th place at today's 9th Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.

With nearly 100 colleges/universities competing this year including U of L, U of K, most of the SEC, every college in Kentucky (EKU, WKU, etc.), and 8 of the top 13 teams in NCAA D-II.  Due to the increased field, they had six races –three men's and three women's.  Bellarmine was in the top "gold" division.  A second Bellarmine squad competed in the Classic's "Blue" division.

Despite not having 2009 All-GLVC runner Nate Dotterweich (Monticello, Iowa, Monticello) available for the race today (foot injury), the Knights had a solid showing placing 28th in the Men's Gold 8k race out of the 38 total. Junior Jordan Parayil (West Chester, Oh, Lakota West) led the way for the Knights once again finishing 80th in a time of 24:57.13. Next in for the Knights was Junior Alex Jones (Sellersburg, Ind., Silvercreek)(25:29.96) in 140th and Senior Ben Draper (Floyd Knobs, Ind., Floyd Central)(25:33.58) in at 149th.
The weather once again a non-issue this morning for the races, but the athletes did have to battle another unforeseen element, dust. Getting into the athletes' eyes and mouth making it difficult to see and breathe at times. Jones reported that he wore to help keep the dust out of his eyes.

The "Bellar-men" take up the course next in Terre Haute, Ind. in the Gibson Family Invitational. The race will be run at Gibson National Cross Country Course Oct. 9@ noon.
