MSU Cross Country Teams Compete at Dayton Flyer 5K

KETTERING, Ohio –
The Morehead State men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off the 2010 season at the Meijer Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering, Ohio. Josh Wakeman set the pace for the Eagles finishing 23rd overall with a time of 15:50.

"I thought that we all competed real hard today.  We improved our times from last year, but our overall position as a team wasn't as high" said coach Tommy Barksdale. "We will take what we did here today and build on it for the rest of the season, I expect good things from both of our squads and we are looking forward to the next race."

On the men’s side, James Bowens and Ron Duncan also turned in solid performances finishing 40th and 48th respectively. Bowens completed the course in 16:05 and Duncan crossed the finish line in 16:13.

The Miami Redhawks won the men’s event with 28 points and host Dayton finished second with 34.

For the women, Liz Braunwart led the Eagles with a time of 20:11. Freshman Parker Winters finished just eight seconds behind Braunwart in 20:19 and Natalie Norman crossed the tape in a time of 21:01.

The Redhawks also won the women’s event with 24 points and the Flyers finished second with 33.

The Eagles will be in action again on Sept. 18 at the Old Timer’s Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., the race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
