Barksdale Enhances Cross Country/Track and Field Rosters With 17 Newcomers

MOREHEAD, Ky.— Morehead State cross country/track and field coach Tommy Barksdale has announced the addition of 17 newcomers to the roster for the 2010-2011 cross country and track seasons. Barksdale has added 10 men and seven women.

The newest members of the women’s team are: Parker Winters (Ripley, W. Va./Ripley HS), Lyndsay Wehage (Covington, Ky./Dixie Heights HS), Lyndsay Norris (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon HS), Kayla Braddock (Covington, Ky./Scott HS), Miranda Nelson (Lancaster, Ohio/Fairfield Union HS), Alyssa Arnold (Millersport, Ohio/Millersport HS), and Shelby Brickey (Sandy Hook, Ky./Elliott County HS).

The men’s additions are: Dalton Caudill (Owingsville, Ky./Bath County High School), Jim Myers (Maysville, Ky./Mason County HS), Chase Ratliff (Pikeville, Ky./Shelby Valley HS), Andy Bailey (St. Albans, W. Va.,/St. Albans HS), Chad Gibson and Hunter Gibson [no relation] (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland HS), Alexx Bernard (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County HS), Than Worland (Tiffin, Ohio/Columbian HS), Jakeb Elliot (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown HS) and Alex Stevens (Morehead, Ky./Rowan County Senior HS).

Winters, who will run cross country and also middle distance in track, boasts a personal record of 21:55 in the 5K and has run the 800 meters in 2:24. Wehage, a middle distance and cross country competitor ran the 5K in a personal best time of 20:14 and has clocked in on the 800 meter run in 2:23. Norris, a middle distance track runner and cross country athlete, has a personal best of 20:49 in the 5K.

Braddock, who will run cross country in the Fall and long distance in the track season, sports a 21:40 personal record in the 5K. She has also run the 1600 meter run in a personal record 6:24.93 and the 3200 meter run in 13:44.60.

Nelson, a thrower, finished seventh at the Ohio state championships in shot put last year. Her top toss has been 39-8.25. Arnold, also a thrower, took fifth at the Ohio state meet last season. She has heaved the shot put a personal record 40-7.5.

Brickey, a local 16th region product from Elliott County who will compete in jumps and sprints, was the runner-up in the high jump at the Kentucky state meet. She holds a personal record of 5-4 in the event. She also won the EKC Championships’ high jump event this season with a 5-2.

Caudill, also a Kentucky 16th Region product from neighboring Bath County, will run long distance events. In the 5K, he has run a personal record of 17:13. He also ran a 10:55.13 in the 3200 meter race at the 2010 state championships where he placed 14th.

Myers will run cross country as well as long distance on the track. He also has recorded a 17:13 personal best in 5K races. Ratliff, a long distance runner, has tallied a personal record of 17:09 in the 5K. He was named Second-Team All-State in 2009, placing 17th at the state championships.

Bailey, a cross country and middle distance runner, is the reigning West Virginia individual state champion in the 800 meter run with a state record time of 1:54.03. His personal record in the 800 meter run is even better at 1:53.93.

Chad Gibson, another middle distance runner, boasts a personal best time of 1:57.51 in the 800 meter run. Hunter Gibson, who will compete in sprinting events, has run the 400 meter race in a personal record time of 52.53.

Bernard, a middle distance runner and cross country athlete, finished fourth at the Kentucky state championships last year with a time of 1:56.15 in the in the 800 meter run. He was also a part of the 4x800 Campbell County relay team that took second at the state meet. That performance prompted KYTrackXC.com to award the team its Distance Athlete of the Week honor.

Worland, a sprinter, has topped out at 53.91 in the 400 meter run. Elliot, a thrower, has tossed the shot put as far as 45-1 in his prep career. He finished eighth at the West Virginia state championships last year.

Stevens, who prepped right here in Morehead and who will be a sprinter at MSU, has recorded a personal best time of 52.53 in the 400 meter run at the Region 6-AA championships. He won the EKC championships’ 400 meter race with a time of 52.57.
