Student-athletes achieve higher academic success for fifth straight year

Kentucky Wesleyan College student-athletes continue to achieve higher academic success for the fifth consecutive year. Ten of the 13 sports produced cumulative grade point averages of 2.8 or above with eight teams above a 3.0 for the 2009-10 academic year.
       
"I am very proud of our student-athletes' success in the classroom this year," said Gary Gallup, KWC Director of Athletics. "Our student-athletes have a true understanding of the importance of education. The coaches and staff have done a great job of reinforcing that message to them daily."
       
The women's golf team attained a team cumulative gpa of 3.51 which is the highest earned for all Panther athletic teams.  The men's golf team was second with a 3.48.
       
During the spring semester, the football team recorded the highest increase from the fall semester followed by baseball, men's golf, men's cross country and both soccer squads.
       
127 of 248 student-athletes (51.2%) attained a gpa of 3.0 or higher including 17 with a perfect 4.0. 54 student-athletes were named to the Spring Dean's List (3.5+) and 17 to the President's List (4.0).
       
KWC student-athletes collectively posted a cumulative gpa of 2.91. The College's overall student average was 2.97.
