Eagle Track And Field Finish Strong At 2010 OVC Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –
The Morehead State track and field team finished up competition at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium under unfavorable conditions that included, hard rain and two delays because of lighting.

The men scored eight points on the final day bringing their meet total to 22, which put them in sixth place overall. The women scored one point Sunday and finished in eighth place.

JT Stone's school record-breaking hammer throw was one of the Eagles' men's highlights of the day. Stone broke the school record with a toss of 46.70 meters which placed him fifth and notched two points for the squad. Michael Wright also competed and hurled a mark of 37.71 meters.

Ron Duncan and Josh Wakeman competed in the 1,500 meter run. Duncan took an early lead and set the pace of the race, but ultimately fell to ninth and finished with a time of 4:02.64. Wakeman finished at time of 4:17.71.

Jeffery Covington ran in the 800 open run and clocked in with a time of 2:01.21.

Matt Dotson, Michael Settles, and Duncan all ran in the 5,000 meters. The Eagles picked up two points in this race due to a great run on the wet track by Duncan who finished fifth with a time of 15:21.53. Dotson crossed the line with a time of 15:52.99 and Michael Settles also clocked a time of 16:23.97.

The men’s 4x400 relay team picked up two points with a fifth-place finish in a time of 3:51.94. The team was made up of Jeffery Covington, Adam Pettyjohn, Pete Negron, and Robert Johnson.

On the women’s side, Kate Bomar ran in the 1,500 meters and finished in a time of 5:19.45. In the 5,000 meter run, Holly Mandzak and Liz Braunwart raced for the Eagles finishing in times of 19:56.20 and 20:22.13 respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Tara Henry, Lauren Seebach, Linda Dixon, and Bree Massie finished with a time of 52:48 and the 4x400 relay team made up of Lauren Seebach, Kate Bomar, Natalie Norman, and Bree Massie scored a point for the women, crossing the line in a time of 4:26.91.

Marybeth Harmon participated in the hammer throw, lobbing the hammer 29.50 meters.

The women’s meet was won by Eastern Illinois who scored 212 points. Finishing in second with 155.50 points was SEMO and in third with 131 points was Eastern Kentucky. Eastern Illinois won the men’s meet with a total of 261 points. Second place went to SEMO with 128 points and third place was EKU with 106 points.
