Knights run to victory at EKU

RICHMOND, Ky.-The Bellarmine University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Eastern Kentucky University Track & Field Open on Friday, and both teams put in stellar performances. The teams combined to win five events overall and broke nine school records.

Junior Jesse Shelton got the day started winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.13, finishing just ahead of sophomore William Saucer. Meanwhile, sophomore Carissa Martin led a strong group of runners during the 800 meter run. Bellarmine placed five runners in the top seven of that event.The Knights next victory came in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Nate Dotterweich beat out the rest of the field, finishing with a time of 9:39. 

The Knights put the finishing touches on the day, going 1-2 in both the women's and men's pole vault. Freshman Erin Dwenger took first place in the women's while sophomore Nicole Hess took second. On the men's side, Bryan Gennett's vault of 4.35 meters took first and broke the school record. Adam Hobson took second with a vault of 4.20 meters.

The Knights return to action next Saturday as they host the Bellarmine Invitational at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. It will be the first home track meet at Bellarmine since May 14, 1963. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
