RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Morehead State track and field team was in action at the Eastern Kentucky Open, in what turned out to be very wet conditions Friday evening at Tom Samuels Track in Richmond, Ky. JT Stone and Alexis King both captured victories for the Eagles. Stone won the shot put and the hammer throw, which were the first wins of his career, while King won the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

On the men’s side, Michael Settles finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:56.00. Ron Duncan did well in the 5,000 meter run with a third place finish in a time of 15:12.60 and Josh Wakeman took fourth in the 1,500 meter run finishing in a time of 4:00.92.

Under the lights and in the pouring rain, the men’s 4x400 team finished in second place, one second behind EKU with a time of 3:36.60.

In the throws, Stone won the hammer with a heave of 44.24 meters, and went on to win the shot with a toss of 15.31 meters, both throws were meet records. Alex Koski recorded a personal best throw of 38.30 meters in the javelin to place ninth.

"It was definitely a frustrating day since I wasn't throwing as far as I wanted to, but it is good to get my first collegiate win to build some confidence heading into conference.” said Stone “Hopefully in the next meets, I will feel good enough to hit a throw (shot put) to qualify for NCAA Regionals."

On the women’s side, King won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a near personal best time of 12:14.00 and Bree Massie finished in eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.14. Natalie Norman finished in ninth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:28.33 to round it out for the women.

"This was perfect setup meet, the wind and weather could have been a little better, but we have continued to improve on the track and in the field and we are where we need to be going into conference.” said Head Coach Tommy Barksdale “We will take the next weekend off after three tough road meets and get ready to go to the OVC Championships."

The Eagles will be in action again at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, which are held April 30 through May 1 in Cookville, Tenn.
