COMPLETE RESULTS
RICHMOND, Ky. – Facing wet conditions for much of the night, the Eastern Kentucky University track and field team won 13 events at its only home meet of the spring, the EKU Open, on Friday night at Tom Samuels Track.
Freshman
Jazzmin Jeter won the women’s 200 meters with a time of 25.11, while her teammates, freshman
Bianca Forbes and sophomore
Lutisha Bowen, placed second and third respectively with times of 25.16 and 25.19.
Four Colonels then swept the 100-meter hurdles, as Bowen won the event with a time of 14.06, and freshman
DanHeisha Harding (14.34) and juniors
Tashana Johnson (14.75) and
Jasmyn Norris (14.84) finished second – fourth.
Forbes won the women’s 400 meters with a time of 55.14. Junior
Kristopher Hawkins then won the men’s 400 meters with a season-best time of 48.0.
For the men’s distance team, freshman
Soufiane Bouchikhi – in a tune-up before the Penn Relays this week – won the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:56.78. Sophomore
David Mutuse then prevailed in the men’s 5,000 meters in a time of 14:55.70. Senior
Joseph Maina – seeing some of his first action of the spring – finished second in the 5,000 meters in 14:59.60.
On the women’s distance side, junior
Sylvia Bundotich won the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:57.50.
For the women’s field team, freshman
Shannon Hooper won the women’s discus for the third straight week with a toss of 131-03. Sophomore
Morgan Thacker then won the women’s triple jump with a leap of 35-10.50.
Representing the men’s field team, senior
Steven Nicholson took first place in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 44-03.25.
The Colonels also performed well in relays. Bowen, Harding, Jeter and sophomore
Diamond Benjamin combined to win the women’s 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.47. At the end of the night, Jeter, Forbes, Harding and senior
Abigail Love teamed up to win the women’s 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:10.50, while sophomore
William Hogan, freshmen
Anthony Eason and
Chris Colvin and senior
Westley Williams combined to win the men’s 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:35.60.
Some members of the EKU track and field team will compete this week at the talent-laden Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The rest of the squad will prepare for the OVC Outdoor Championships, which will take place April 30-May 1 in Cookeville, Tenn.
