Women's Shuttle Hurdle Relay Wins at Sea-Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team competed at the University of Tennessee Sea-Ray Relays and the University of the Cumberlands Invitational this weekend. The women’s shuttle hurdle relay team highlighted the weekend by winning at the Sea-Ray Relays with a time of 56.84.

The shuttle hurdle relay team – composed of juniors Tashana Johnson and Jasmyn Norris, sophomore Lutisha Bowen and freshman DanHeisha Harding – defeated schools from Indiana State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Charlotte to win the event with a time of 56.84. The time is 0.2 seconds off the EKU school record.

Bowen also made some noise individually as she finished 27th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.79, which, as of Saturday, is the fastest 200 meters time in the OVC.

Junior Katherine Pagano also delivered a notable performance in Knoxville when she won the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:59.00., which is the fastest time in the conference.

Senior Christopher Rengifo also improved on his OVC-best 1,500 meters time with a mark of 3:51.92 at the Sea-Ray Relays, and sophomore David Mutuse ran a 14:46.02 in the 5,000 meters, which is second in the conference behind teammate Soufiane Bouchikihi.

At the University of the Cumberlands Invitational, Mutuse ran again, this time in the 10,000 meters, and recorded the fastest time in the OVC at 30:53.36.

Junior Kristopher Hawkins also ran well at the Cumberlands, picking up a 48.49 in the 400 meters, which is the fourth fastest time in the conference this season.

Other winners for EKU at the Cumberlands include Jackline Barkechir (1,500 meters, 800 meters), junior Steven Nicholson (110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles), Rengifo (800 meters), freshman Shannon Hooper (discus) and the men's and women's 4x800 meter relay teams.

The EKU track and field team returns to action this Friday at its home meet, the EKU Open.
