MSU Track And Field Team Has Strong Showing At Centre College Invitational

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Morehead State track and field team was in action Saturday afternoon in blustery conditions and rain at the Centre College Invitational in Danville, Ky. MSU also had individuals competing in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. The Eagles did well despite the weather and recorded multiple season bests in different events.

"Although outstanding times were not seen on the track, the competitiveness and effort that the whole team showed was amazing and could certainly be a turning point in our season. " said head coach Tommy Barksdale.

On the women’s side, Rudy Millard won the 10,000 meters in a time of 41:14.09. Bree Massie took ninth in the 100 meters, finishing with a time of 13.53 and took eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.41. With a 12th place finish, Marybeth Harmon extended her school record in the hammer throw to 26.69 meters and Alexis King finished with a season best 2:29.88 in the 800 meters for a ninth place finish.

On the men’s side the Eagles were led by Adam Pettyjohn and his sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 59.51. Christian Albertson finished ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.42 and Jeffery Covington ran a time of 2:05.21 in the 800 meter run for a 10th place finish.

At the Cincinnati meet JT Stone placed ninth in shot put with a season best heave of 15.17 m in a very strong field led by the 2010 indoor NCAA Division II national champion. Josh Wakeman and Ron Duncan had a strong showing in the 5,000 meter run, Wakeman finished with a time of 14:55.61 for a fifth place finish and Duncan placed eighth in a time of 15:09.39.

“JT is continuing to get stronger everyday and is gradually learning to compete in three events at a time.” said coach Bryan Duby. “Over the next couple of weeks we will really focus on getting JT ready to compete for a conference championship in shot put.”

The track and field team will be in action at Miami (OH) on April 10.

“Next week we are looking to continue our success, and build on the outstanding competitiveness of the team at Centre and Cincinnati, with hopes of better weather.”
said coach Barksdale.
