Women's Cross Country Earns All-Academic Team Honors

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State women’s cross country team has earned All-Academic Team honors. Morehead State was one of 176 teams honored with the award, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Friday.

The women’s team finished with an overall team GPA 3.51. For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

“It’s an honor for the girls to win the award; it shows how hard they work on and off the course.” said Coach Tommy Barksdale “We set that as one of our goals this season, along with the goals we set on the course and I am proud of them, it’s a great accomplishment.”

Villanova University’s women’s team was the 2009 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Scholar Team of the Year distinction goes to the program that earned All-Academic Team honors and placed the highest among the field at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
