RICHMOND, Ky. – Five members of the Eastern Kentucky University track and field team will compete this weekend in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held March 11-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Senior
Christopher Rengifo will compete in the mile and freshman
Soufiane Bouchikhi will compete in the 3,000 meters at the Notre Dame Last Chance Meet in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday.
Rengifo placed second (behind Bouchikhi) in the mile at the OVC Championships with a time of 4:13.72. Bouchikhi won the 3,000 meters at the OVC Championships with a time of 8:41.39; however, he ran an 8:11.97 as an unattached runner at Rod McCravy Invitational in January.
Sophomore
Diamond Benjamin will compete in the 55 meters and the 200 meters and sophomore
Lutisha Bowen and freshman
DanHeisha Harding will compete in the 55-meter hurdles at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier Meet in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday.
Benjamin won the 55 meters and the 200 meters at the OVC Championships with times of 6.94 and 24.48. She is currently ranked 50th in the country in the 55 meters. Harding won the 55-meter hurdles at the OVC Championships with a time of 7.98 while Bowen took fifth with a time of 8.21. Harding is currently the 94th ranked hurdler and 12th ranked freshman hurdler in the country.
Following the indoor national championships, the EKU track and field team will begin its outdoor season on March 26 at the North Carolina State Raleigh Relays.
