Forbes Sets New School 400 Meters Record at the Hoosier Hills Open

Bouchikhi wins mile in first collegiate race

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.
– Eastern Kentucky University freshman Bianca Forbes set a new school record in the indoor 400 meters Friday night at the Indiana University Hoosier Hills Open. Forbes clocked an OVC-best time of 55.55 and finished second overall behind 2008 4x400 Olympic gold medalist Mary Wineberg.

Sophomore Diamond Benjamin also ran well at the meet, finishing second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.63 and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.04.

Sophomore Lutisha Bowen placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.25 while Forbes took 10th in the 200 meters in 25.58.

Benjamin’s time in the 200 meters ranks second in the OVC while Bowen’s time is fourth and Forbes’ time is fifth.

Other notable performances for the women included freshman Picoty Leitich’s second place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.78 and sophomore Morgan Thacker’s third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-08.25.

On the men’s side, freshman Soufiane Bouchikhi – in his first collegiate race ever – won the mile with a time of 4:11.20.

Junior Shannon Davis ran his best time of the season in the 60 meters, placing eighth overall in a time of 6.98.

The EKU track and field team will return to action at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-27 in Nashville, Tenn.
