Knights track and field teams compete at Engineer Invitational

Women tie for first, men take 3rd

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--The Bellarmine men's and women's track teams competed in meet number two of the indoor track season in the Engineer Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon. The women's scored a number of individual victories on their way to tying for first in the team competition.  The men also had a number of solid performances on their way to a third place finish.

Freshman Erin Dwenger registered the first 10 points for the Knights by winning the women's pole vault by clearing 10-6, which sets a new freshman vault record.

Also winning events for the women were Elaine Kuntz in the 55 meters (new freshman record 7.59 seconds) and Cristin Samuels in the 3,000 meters.  The women's 4 x 200 relay team of (Kuntz, Rachel Eyckmans, Katherine Mastronicola, and Katie Neiser) also took the top spot and set a new school record with their time of 1:49.75.  The distance medley relay team of Lindsay Boyce, Kristin Hamrick, Allison Echler and Carissa Martin also won their event.

The men's team got its lone event win in the men's distance relay, where Nathan Dotterweich, Joe Joe Mallek, Cullen Kuntz and Josh Farmer took the top spot. A second Bellarmine distance medley relay team (Jovan Andjelich, Jesse Shelton, Michael Robinson, and Noah Reed) were second in the event.

Other strong men's performances included William Saucer (broke his own school record by running a 23.14 in the 200 meters to finish second), Franklin Wathen (ties school record with 6'2" high jump, and Joey Blue (second in the 400 meters). Nicholas Hushebeck also set two freshmen school records with his long jump of 6.17 meters and triple jump of 12.21 meters.

The Bellarmine track teams return to action at 9 a.m. on Feb. 6 at the Hoosier Invitational hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington.
