Track and Field Competes at Rod McCravy Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team competed against a talented field at the University of Kentucky Rod McCravy Invitational this weekend in Nutter Fieldhouse. Sophomore Diamond Benjamin ran well for the Colonels, finishing sixth in the finals of the 60 meters with a time of 7.62.

Benjamin also placed 18th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.34.

Freshman DanHeisha Harding also delivered a notable performance for EKU as she finished 10th in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67.

Distance runners also performed well over the weekend as junior Katherine Pagano took 13th in the 800 meters (2:20.50), 21st in the mile (5:10.90) and 12th in the 3,000 meters (10:18.93).

Freshman Pictoty Leitich, meanwhile, took 15th in the 800 meters (2:20.91) and 18th in the mile (5:09.78).

On the men’s side, a trio of distance runners – junior David Mutuse (8:38.90) and sophomores Chris Rice (8:39.30) and Alex Dreyer (8:39.98) – recorded some of the top 3,000 meters time in the OVC.

Senior Chris Rengifo finished ninth in the 800 meters (1:54.01) and 19th in the mile (4:16.26).

Junior Shannon Davis, seeing his first action of the indoor season, qualified for the finals of the 60 meters with a time of 7.01.

The Rod McCravy Invitational featured teams such as Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Cincinnati, Memphis and Western Kentucky.

The EKU track and field team will continue the indoor season at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational on Feb. 6.
