KENOSHA, Wisc.-- Bellarmine's men's and women's cross country teams finished fifth and eighth at the NCAA regional meet hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside this morning.
The top three teams in both the men's and women's race will qualify for the NCAA II nationals in Evansville, Indiana on Sat, Nov. 21. In addition, the top two finishers that are not a part of those teams qualify.
The men finished fifth in the 10K race and were led by Sophomore
Nate Dotterweich, whose 33:52 run was good enough for a top 25 finish (22). Sophomore
Alex Jones was not far behind with a time of 34:09 and a 26th place finish. Just two spots back was
Jordan Parayil at 34:16. Freshman
Joseph Mallek and senior
Justin Smith were a mere two seconds apart and finished up 38th and 40th respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore
Carissa Martin was the Knights top finisher at 32nd with a time of 23:46 for the six kilometer run. Sophomore
Brianna Foster finished 50th with a time time of 24:07. Seniors
Cristin Samuels and
Kristen Geiger finished 52nd and 54th with times of only one second apart, 28:08 and 28:09. Junior
Meghan Shagena rounded out the top five for Bellarmine with a 66th place finish and a time of 24:29.
For the men, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley, and Southern Indiana will advance to the NCAA Division II nationals in Evansville. Runners Jamie Villa Zapatero (Drury) and Drew Harris (Northern Kentucky University) will also advance. For the women, Grand Valley State, Southern Indiana, and Ferris State will advance and the two top individual runners that will advance are Katherine Hauge (Lewis) and Ashley Quick (Hillsdale).
