The KYtrackXC.com 5k Showdown brings out the best of the best distance talent from all across the state every year and 2021 was no different. We witnessed some all time great performances from both the boys and girls as the winners move into the top 5 all time among the best to ever do it in Kentucky!

Race Video's and Interviews

In our first race of the day we had a great battle between Morgan Remley and Autumn Egleston in the early stages, but Sierra Oesterling stayed patient, took the lead late, and never looked back as she took the win in Heat 1 with a time of 19:26.

The first heat of Boys stayed consistent through the first half of the race with a large pack up front. A few boys took turns leading and pacing the field with a surge or two every once in awhile. In the end it came down to an 800m battle between North Oldham's Evan and Adam Patel who finished 1-2 with Evan crossing first in 15:57 and Adam in 15:59.

In the second heat of Girls Ciara O'Shea set out to defend her title and did so in dominating fashion per usual finishing with a 17:42, just 2 seconds off of her all time 5k PR. That time, however, moves O'Shea to #4 on the girls meet record list behind just Michaela Reinhart, Kaitlyn Lacy, and Maggie Allen!

The final race of the night was a great battle, but that battle was mostly for 2nd! Will Cahill and Connor Hayes split off from the lead pack early and clicked off 70 second laps while the pack behind battled for position. In the late stages, Theo Bachmann began to move through the pack and found himself cutting into Cahill's lead for the last half mile, but ran out of room in the end. Along with the win and enormous PR, Cahill moves to #3 all time at the 5k Showdown with his 14:53 as Bachmann now sits #4 all time in 14:54 with just Jacob Thomson and Yared Nuguse ahead of them!
