Varsity Girls Athlete of the Week

Whitney O'Bryan

Daviess County

O’Bryan, an 8th grader at Daviess County Middle School not only ran a great race this week she also changed this award.  This has typically been the High School Girls Athlete of the Week, but starting this week and from now on it is going to be the Varsity Girls Athlete of the Week.  Whitney finished 2nd overall in the Class AAA (Large School) Girls Race Saturday at the Lexington Catholic Invitational.  She ran a career best time of 19:35 and helped lead Daviess County to a second place team finish.

 

 

Varsity Boys Athlete of the Week

Trevin Peterson

Walton Verona

Peterson, an 11th grader at Walton-Verona came into the Lexington Catholic Invitational ranked #1 in the KYtrackXC.com Class A State Rankings and he showed why on Saturday.  Facing the other top two Class A runners in Lexington Christian’s Will Mullett and St. Mary’s James Maglasang he went to the front of the race and stayed there.  Running side by side with Mullett, Peterson pulled away at the end with a convincing nine second victory running a 16:19.95.

 

 

Middle School Girls Athlete of the Week

Erin Wilson

South Oldham Middle School

Wilson, a 7th grader at South Oldham MS defended her home turf as she won the Middle School Girls race at the Dragon Invitational.  She ran a 16:21.91 to win the 4000 Meter race and helped lead KYtrackXC.com MS #1 South Oldham to another team victory this season.

 

 

Middle School Boys Athlete of the Week

Christopher Striegel

Holy Trinity

Striegel, an 8th grader at Holy Trinity won the Dragon Invitational Saturday at South Oldham.  Running against several of the top middle school boy runners in the state he ran the 4000 Meter course in a best time of 14:18.21.
