COMPLETE MEN'S RESULTS
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s cross country team was edged by the host Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday at the Commodore Classic while the men’s team competed at the Western Kentucky Old Timer’s Classic.
The women turned in a strong effort, narrowly losing to the Commodores on their home course by nine points. The Colonels, however, did defeat 15 other teams, including preseason OVC favorite, Murray State.
Freshman
Picoty Leitich again led the way for EKU, finishing third with a time of 18:26.27 in the 3.1 mile race.
Newcomer
Sylvia Bundotich finished fourth overall with a time 18:45.22 while junior Katherine Pagano took eighth place in 18:48.57.
Freshman
Lydia Kosgei (13th place, 19:19.18) and sophomore
Danielle Mason (15th place, 19:21.27) closed out EKU’s top five competitors in the race.
The men’s team competed against Western Kentucky, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State in the unscored 28th version of the Old Timer’s Classic.
Junior Wesley Ruttoh led the men’s team with a fourth place finish with a time of 25:18.68 in the five mile race.
Sophomore
Alex Dreyer, meanwhile, took 11th place with a time of 26:18.12 while newcomer
Daniel Jones was not far behind Dreyer in 13th place with a time of 26:34.51.
Sophomore
Chris Rice (14th place, 26:45.07) and senior
Josephat Melly (16th place, 26:51.98) rounded out the Colonels’ top five finishers.
Former EKU cross country runner and current indoor track and field runner
Joseph Maina ran unattached at the meet and placed second with a time of 24:50.41
The cross country Colonels will return to action on Oct. 3 at the Greater Louisville Classic.
